RE:    Resolution to February 4, 2010 Product Safety Notice - Affects All
GasAlertMicro 5 / X5 Series Detectors Operating in Pump Mode

Dear Customer,

BW Technologies by Honeywell announces the release of an instrument firmware upgrade that resolves the safety issue identified in the February 4, 2010 advisory [view here].  Effective immediately, a validated firmware upgrade is available for all GasAlertMicro 5 and X5 Series gas detectors. This is a mandatory upgrade for all GasAlertMicro 5 and X5 Series instruments operating in pump mode.

A team of experts was engaged to provide resolution to this safety issue as quickly as possible. The firmware upgrade released resolves the safety issue by introducing additional self-test routines to instruments operating in pump mode. The upgrade is relevant for both February 4, 2010 and December 17, 2009 safety notices and enables users to resume operation of their instrument in pump mode.

For GasAlertMicro 5 Series Instruments: To resume use in pump mode, the latest firmware upgrade must be uploaded into all of the following instruments:

To minimize interruption of service, users are able to complete the firmware upgrade on location. To receive the firmware upgrade customers can simply 1) download the firmware upgrade and instructions from the BW website, or 2) register online to have the upgrade shipped on a memory card [view here ].  Customers that have previously registered their instruments will automatically be shipped the firmware upgrade kit, or will receive download/upgrade instructions by email. For additional assistance we encourage customers to contact a local BW Technologies representative. 

For X5 Series Instruments: To resume use in pump mode, users must contact a Honeywell Analytics or BW Technologies representative to arrange for the firmware upgrade.
